Rules & Laws

Last reviewed 12 September 2026

Five documents, one set of expectations. The rulebook is between players and staff enforce it. The Bill of Rights is the town's promise to your character. The Book of Laws is what the court sentences from.

Server Rulebook

Out of character, and binding on you rather than on the person you play. Your character can lie, steal and hold a grudge. You cannot.

Cold Creek is intended to be a true roleplay experience. For this to occur in an online environment, all players must be aware of the rules and their consequences, and must WANT to follow them.

This document goes hand in hand with the Bill of Rights, offering a bedrock for the experience we are cultivating.

As always, the biggest rule is simple. Take the game seriously, not yourself. We are all silly larpers playing a silly larp game. Act like it.

This is, and will remain, a living document. It may change at any time, though we will always strive to give 72 hours of notice.

Rules are quoted by number. If you are told you broke rule 14, it is the one below.

General

Who can play, and where the character stops.

  1. Rule 01

    Over 17, no exceptions

All players MUST be over 17 years of age. There are no exceptions and no second chances.

  2. Rule 02

Be in the Discord, be linked

All players must be present in the Cold Creek Discord and linked to CreekLink. The server will not let you play without them. You do not need to talk, but you will be there.

  3. Rule 03

    In game is in character

All in-game interactions and communications are assumed to be in character. Players should act on the knowledge their character would have, within the realm of the game.

  4. Rule 04

    Discord is out of character

All Discord channels, unless annotated otherwise, are assumed to be out of character. Current in-game goings-on should not be spoken about there. Discord channels are not for playing the Cold Creek server together.

Community

Everywhere we operate, not only in game.

  1. Rule 05

    Respect and dignity

Every interaction, on any platform, is expected to be respectful. Racist, sexist, demeaning or derogatory language or behavior, including anything targeting someone's race, religion, gender, creed, disability or sexual identity, is strictly forbidden. Toxicity, defamation and department bashing toward any individual or group are not tolerated. Slander, threats and bigoted language toward any member result in disciplinary action, up to permanent removal from the community.

  2. Rule 06

    Sexual harassment

Prohibited within this community. No exceptions.

  3. Rule 07

    Privacy protection

Do not share or distribute another member's personal information without their explicit consent. That covers names, location, photos, email addresses, passwords and anything else identifying.

  4. Rule 08

    Appropriate content and language

Keep language appropriate in and out of roleplay, and avoid excessive swearing in Discord or in game. NSFW content is not permitted anywhere in the community, including Discord profile pictures, banners, bios and statuses. Sexual or explicit roleplay is banned outright. If you are playing custom in-game music that is explicit, warn nearby players in chat first. Staff can stop it at their discretion regardless.

  5. Rule 09

    Conflict resolution

Arguing with other members, in or out of the game, is not allowed. Take disputes to a private conversation or to staff mediation instead. If you witness an argument, report it to staff rather than getting involved yourself.

  6. Rule 10

Respect for staff and chain of command

Staff are treated with respect and their directives are followed without argument in the moment. You are never required to agree with a decision, only to follow it at the time. If you believe you were punished unfairly, file an Internal Affairs report rather than litigating it live. Route any issue or concern through the chain of command, and do not insert yourself into a staff situation unless you are directly involved or have been asked to help. Perceived staff misconduct is reported through proper channels with evidence, never argued out in chat.

  7. Rule 11

    Accountability

You are responsible for everything done on your account, regardless of who was actually using it at the time.

  8. Rule 12

    Activity and access

During high traffic, or when a queue is active, AFK players may be removed to free up slots for others.

  9. Rule 13

    Communication requirements

Cold Creek is an English-speaking community. A working microphone and the ability to communicate in English are required to participate.

  10. Rule 14

    Advertising

Advertising or recruiting for other servers or communities is not allowed without explicit approval from community management.

  11. Rule 15

    Exploits and cheating

Unauthorized mods, hacks, cheats or exploiting scripts and resources result in an immediate, permanent ban. Exploiting bugs or glitches carries consequences scaled to the severity of the exploit.

  12. Rule 16

    Intellectual property

Documents, items and assets cannot be copied, redistributed or replicated without authorization. Introducing or soliciting leaked items, files or assets into the server is prohibited.

Realism

If it does not make sense, do not do it.

  1. Rule 17

    Keep the scenario logical

Keep every scenario realistic and logical for the situation. Do not chase down a minor traffic stop in a supercar, swarm an officer during somebody else's stop, drive a supercar through backroads at ridiculous speeds, or roleplay a supernatural being without server approval.

  2. Rule 18

    Drive like it costs something

Do not drive recklessly without an in-character reason. No blowing through red lights at 100mph for fun. Crash realism still applies: hit a wall at 45mph and your car is broken.

  3. Rule 19

    Common sense governs the rest

Common sense governs anything not explicitly listed. If it does not make sense, do not do it.

  4. Rule 20

    Initiation requirement

A hostile or roleplay-altering interaction cannot begin until there has been direct contact: voice, or a visible in-character action with the other party. Once a conflict starts escalating, give the other party reasonable time to respond before continuing. Do not rush to force an outcome.

  5. Rule 21

    Area of play

Roleplay is expected to stay within Cold Creek's defined map boundaries. Leaving the area of play to dodge a scene, avoid consequences or continue roleplay outside the intended bounds is not allowed.

Staying in character

Playing a person who can lose.

  1. Rule 22

    Stay in character

You must stay in character at all times. Breaking character in game can mean a kick or a strike. Take out-of-character issues outside the game.

  2. Rule 23

Fear RP is always in effect

React the way a real person would. A gun to your head means you are scared.

  3. Rule 24

    No value for life

Act as if your character is a real human who fears death or serious injury. Treat your character's life as precious, rather than acting recklessly because you respawn after dying.

  4. Rule 25

A real name and a real backstory

Characters need realistic names and a real backstory. Play actions consistent with who your character is.

  5. Rule 26

    Answer truthfully

Respond to chat and to any /me directed at you with total truthfulness. If an officer pats you down and you /me finds nothing, you are now roleplaying as unarmed.

  6. Rule 27

    Play out a dumb death

If you die from something dumb, roleplay it out. If you think a rule was broken, wait until the scene ends to call staff, unless it is egregious enough to need immediate intervention. Something being unintentional or annoying does not automatically get it reversed.

  7. Rule 28

    Trolling is an instant ban

Troll menus, disobeying staff, racist or sexist roleplay, or otherwise ruining the roleplay for others.

  8. Rule 29

    Unsolicited involvement

Do not insert your character into a scene you were not part of, unless you are invited in by the players already running it, or by staff.

  9. Rule 30

Keep OOC speech out of the scene

Minimize all out-of-character speech during active roleplay, unless staff facilitated it or a real-life reason arises.

  10. Rule 31

    Combat logging

Disconnecting from the server to avoid an active roleplay situation, especially one involving law enforcement or staff intervention, is strictly prohibited and treated as a bannable offense.

  11. Rule 32

    Explicitly disturbing content

Beyond the existing ban on sexual or explicit roleplay, gratuitously graphic or disturbing content is not allowed, even outside a sexual context. That covers excessive gore, prolonged torture, animal cruelty and recreations of real-world tragedies.

  12. Rule 33

    Revives and appearance changes

Reviving a character or changing their appearance must go through the game's intended systems. No shortcuts that skip the in-character process.

  13. Rule 34

    Law enforcement presence

Characters should behave like someone genuinely afraid of legal consequences. Avoid openly committing or discussing crimes in plain view of police.

  14. Rule 35

    Injury and death realism

Roleplay injuries with the weight a real injury would carry, and respect the New Life Rule and the permanent consequences of a Character Kill. A character's death or serious injury is not something to shrug off and continue past.

  15. Rule 36

    Prohibited roleplay

Military, militia, hitman, suicide, terrorism, sexual or erotic, and real public figure roleplay are all strictly prohibited. If you have a question about one, contact staff.

Vehicles

Everything on the road belongs to somebody.

  1. Rule 37

    Emergency vehicles are not yours

Theft of emergency vehicles is prohibited.

  2. Rule 38

    Armored vehicles need approval

Deploying a heavily armored vehicle requires prior staff approval and must fit an established, valid roleplay context.

  3. Rule 39

    Register every civilian vehicle

Every civilian vehicle must be registered in the CAD system. CAD is what law enforcement treats as accurate, and I forgot is not a roleplay excuse. Claiming a car is rented or new does not exempt it: police will treat it as unregistered and tow it. If you do not want a car tied to your name, register it under a your-name auto rentals company in CAD instead.

  4. Rule 40

    Special circumstances

Unique scenarios involving emergency vehicles or large-scale operations require direct approval from community management before they happen, not after.

Weapons and violence

Violence is on the table. It costs something.

  1. Rule 41

    Semi-automatic only

Weapons must be set to semi-automatic.

  2. Rule 42

    No sniper rifles

    Sniper rifles are prohibited.

  3. Rule 43

    No random deathmatch

Killing or attacking another player with no roleplay reason or buildup. Walking up and shooting somebody for no in-character reason, the way you would frag someone in a shooter.

  4. Rule 44

    No vehicle deathmatch

The same idea as random deathmatch, using a vehicle as the weapon. Ramming or running somebody over without any roleplay justification, as opposed to an actual in-character car chase or a crash that develops naturally.

  5. Rule 45

    No revenge killing

Killing somebody because your previous character died to them, or over a past grudge, rather than because the current scene calls for it. It is an out-of-character motive, getting even, dressed up as roleplay.

Police and emergency

The badge is worn by a player who applied for it.

  1. Rule 46

    No cop baiting

Do not provoke an officer solely to start a chase.

  2. Rule 47

    Evading has its own policy

Running from police is governed by the evading rules in the group below.

  3. Rule 48

    Priorities are capped

Priorities are capped at 45 to 60 minutes so other civilians get a turn. No single civilian or group runs back-to-back priorities.

  4. Rule 49

    One priority at a time

Members cannot run more than one priority at the same time. Doing so requires special permission from an administrator or higher.

  5. Rule 50

    Call it in properly

911 calls must be descriptive, covering what, where, when and who. Be ready to answer the dispatcher's follow-up questions.

  6. Rule 51

    Law enforcement impersonation

Impersonating law enforcement is allowed only under strict conditions: the vehicle and equipment used must be acquired illegally through roleplay. A member who instead wants a dedicated vehicle set up for this must consult staff and get prior approval first.

  7. Rule 52

    Green zones

Violent roleplay is restricted inside designated green zones, such as police stations, unless staff has given prior consent.

Evading the police

Fine when it is earned and played out realistically.

  1. Rule 53

Run because you know about a warrant

Not probably. You have to actually know, and have an in-character way of finding out. Checking CAD is fine, but roleplay how you learned it. A felony stop, with multiple officers, guns drawn and an order out of the car, is not automatically a warrant. Your character would not know police procedure well enough to assume that is the reason.

  2. Rule 54

Run because of what you just did

You committed a felony right before this interaction and believe police are actively looking for you. A felony is a major crime carrying more than a year in prison. If you get away and police track you down later, that later encounter still counts, because the earlier evasion was itself a felony.

  3. Rule 55

Run because of what you are carrying

You are carrying illegal goods that would mean a felony charge if found, and police already have probable cause to search you. The probable cause matters more than the goods. Pulled over for speeding with no indication they want to search is no reason to run, and running would only give them one.

  4. Rule 56

Every pursuit ends one of three ways

Your vehicle is disabled, you flee on foot and you get caught. You are boxed in with no way to flee, so you surrender. Or you genuinely get away and lay low. A real person chooses prison over death almost every time, and getting out of a disabled car to shoot it out with several officers is low-quality roleplay. The only exception is a character in an active manic or mass-murder state, where that response is actually consistent with who they are.

  5. Rule 57

    Play the vehicle damage

A real collision does real damage, often enough to disable the car outright. Landing hard after airtime should blow your tires. A low-suspension car through rough terrain should be wrecked.

  6. Rule 58

    Play the injury

If you crash, you are hurt. Walking away and sprinting off on foot is not realistic unless your character is under a copious amount of drugs.

  7. Rule 59

    Getting away means staying away

The point of evading is to evade. Returning to re-engage the same officers is not legitimate roleplay.

  8. Rule 60

    Pursuit violations are zero tolerance

Breaking this policy adds civilian roleplay restrictions on top of whatever punishment applies to the underlying violations that happened during the pursuit.

How this is enforced. Most breaks end in a conversation and a correction. Repeated ones end in time away from the server, and the rules marked zero tolerance end an account outright. Every decision can be appealed in Discord, and an appeal is read by somebody who was not part of the original call.
